The Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria (SWGN) is the professional body representing screenwriters across Nigeria. We are committed to advancing the craft of screenwriting, championing the rights and interests of writers, and creating opportunities for screenwriters to thrive within Nigeria’s film and television industry.
Through advocacy, professional development, industry engagement and community, the Guild provides a platform for writers to connect, grow and have a stronger voice in the industry.
Established as the nationally recognised authority for the screenwriting profession, the Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria serves as the principal institution for its governance, regulation, and development. The Guild safeguards professional standards, champions creative excellence, and provides enduring stewardship for the advancement of screenwriters and the art of screen storytelling in Nigeria.
The reputation of a screenwriter rests upon the works to which their name is justly and honourably attributed. To preserve the integrity of that record through a fair and equitable system of screen credit is among our highest obligations as an essential safeguard of the profession.
The Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria oversees the administration of residual income derived from the continued use of members' works across film, television, and digital media, ensuring that such entitlements are duly collected and equitably distributed in recognition of the lasting value of authorship.
The Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria convenes seminars, panel discussions, and distinguished public programmes that foster intellectual exchange, cultivate professional excellence, and advance the enduring traditions of the screenwriting craft.
